Dear Parents, Teachers, Grandparents and Friends of Lafayette,
We would like to invite you to make a difference in the education and quality of your child's school experience by joining the Lafayette PTA (Parent Teacher Association) for the 2012-2013 school year. Your membership helps to support our school-our children, our teachers, our staff, and our families. The PTA's importance also grows in difficult financial times when we need a strong advocacy group to lobby on behalf of public education.
Over the last several years PTA membership in our school has increased greatly, which really reflects our vibrant and committed community! For the first time last year we had over 400 members, translating into more programs for our children, more support for our teachers, and more community events to bring us all together!
How to Join: Being a PTA member is one of the best (and easiest) things you can do to be active in your child's school life. So please join today, Dues are $10 for the first member of a household and $5 for each additional member, including children.$3.50 of your dues goes to the National, State, and District PTA, which is constantly working to support our children through outreach, education, lobbying, etc.The National PTA encourages students to join and they will receive their own membership card too. What a great way to show your support by having the whole family join the PTA!To become a member, just fill out the envelope included with this letter, insert a check or cash for your dues, and return it to your teacher or in your Wednesday envelope.
Joining the PTA does not mean you have to volunteer, although we rely on our volunteers to make all sorts of great things happen at Lafayette -even just a couple of hours during the school year makes a big difference! Please see the committee/ event descriptions and complete your volunteer signup form.
The PTA is unique because: ,/ It has not lost its focus for over 100 years -everychild.onevoice. Lafayette has been an organized unit of the National PTA for 85 years!! As a PTA member, you will also be part of the National PTA. ,/ It demonstrates how one person (YOU) can make a difference by working with others within the PTA network. Children learn more and have better lives when parents, school staff, students and the community work together. ,/ Attending the monthly meetings provides opportunities to influence decisions and promote student enrichment programs that you value. To vote, you need to be a PTA member.
Thank you, and we look forward to a great year with you all!
Annette Hurst, PTA President
