A Hidden Jewel
Lafayette Elementary is committed to providing the best quality education for our K-5 student population. We are over 135 year old and have been at our current school site for more than 70 years with an active PTA for more than 80 years. We also had the first Kindergarten program in the state of California! Despite being such an 'old' school, we are current in our efforts to create a student-centered, lifelong learning environment, utilizing the Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP) philosophy. Our teachers are all certified.
Lafayette is a public elementary school located in the outer Richmond District of San Francisco. The school is less than a mile from the Pacific Ocean, four blocks from Golden Gate Park and three blocks from Lincoln Park, the Coastal Trail and Palace of Legion of Honor. Lafayette is also within walking distance of many bus lines, enabling our students and teachers easy access to San Francisco's numerous resources.
Our students represent, by latest count, 23 language groups, reflecting the diversity of our neighborhood and city. The programs listed inside ensure that the academic and social needs of every student at Lafayette are met.
