Dear Lafayette Families, The upcoming week is Multicultural Week!  Everyday we will be celebrating cultures from around the world.  Each day there are festivities, assemblies and celebrations.  It begins on Monday when we have no school in observance of Chinese New Year!  On Tuesday we have cultural assemblies to kick off the week.  On Wednesday night we have Multicultural Performances and Potluck beginning at 5:45 PM.  Thursday is Cultural Heritage Attire Day and Passport around the World in Grades K-3.  On Friday we will have Multicultural Assemblies for the primary (K-2) at 10 AM, and another for the upper grade (3-5) classes at 9 AM.  Please join us next week as we celebrate cultures from around the world. Thank you so much to everyone who came out to our first DHH community meeting back in December.   Our next meeting will take place at 3:15 pm. on February 16 in the Lafayette Library.  We look forward to hearing your ideas and getting your input! Dear Lafayette Families, I hope everybody had a relaxing Martin Luther King Day on Monday.  Here at Lafayette we are back in the swing of things as we begin 2016. Friday is Spirit Day at Lafayette.  Students and parents are encouraged to wear Lafayette colors (blue and white) to show their school spirit.  On the yard after announcements on Friday the PTA will have coffee and snacks and be selling auction tickets. Spirit Wear will be there as well. If it rains, look for them at the front entrance on Anza at the bottom of the stairs. We have over 450 PTA members!  We are doing everything we can to get as many members as we had last year.  If you haven’t signed up for the Lafayette PTA this year, take a moments to become a member. Next week our Spelling Bee Fundraiser finishes on Friday , January 29.  Thank you for all the pledges that have come in so far.  Make sure to send in your pledge money by next week.  Thank you. Next Friday is Crazy Hair Day!  See attachment for more information, but be as creative as you can.  This is a Lafayette Student Council sponsored event and they would love to see your enthusiasm. The 1st  PTA meeting of 2016 will be held tonight, Wednesday, January 13, from 7pm-9pm in the cafeteria. Anyone is welcome to come and hear about upcoming events such as Multicultural Night and the Spring Auction. Thank you so much to all teachers and parents who helped out leading the groups, organizing the schedule, directing visitors, answering questions, and so much more! It was wonderful to see so many San Francisco families  interested in our school. The large turnout on the tours are a testament to the hard work happening every day and to our collective Lafayette School spirit! This morning we held our 2016 Lafayette Spelling Bee.  Congratulations to all of the participants.  A special congratulations to Breanna Lau for winning this year’s contest.  She will now be entered into the city-wide spelling bee that happens in late January.  We wish her the best of luck as she represents Lafayette in the upcoming event. Thank you Lafayette community for a very successful Food Drive this holiday season.  Lafayette donated 3,153 pounds of food. This is the most cans of any school in San Francisco. Congratulations Lafayette students in your efforts to help needy families across our city. These efforts have earned an ice cream party for the entire school courtesy of the San Francisco Food Bank!  Stay tuned for more information.
