Teacher Appreciation Committee
Description
The Teacher/Staff Appreciation Committee seeks opportunities to acknowledge our Teachers
and Staff through several activities during the year. The funding from the PTA has allowed us
to buy dinner for the teachers at "Back to School Night", provide snacks periodically at their
staff meetings, purchasing coffee tokens for their coffee machine and small snacks in their
mailboxes during teacher/parent conference week in the fall and lastly purchase soaps and
lotions for the teacher/staff bathrooms. The biggest event is in May with the Teacher/Staff
Appreciation Luncheon.
As budget cuts continue, the committee would like to secure more parent involvement
to ensure we maintain our goal of saying "Thank You" to our educators throughout the
year. The emphasis has moved from the single activity in May for their staff luncheon to
adding other activities during the year. This has all evolved from conversations via email
or on the school yard and executed with help of parents. Your input, ideas would add to
how we expand our activities throughout the year. Wouldn't you enjoy the opportunity to
say "Thanks" through these PTA sponsored activities? It brings such gratitude and smile of
thanks from all.
Estimated people needed
Varies depending on the activity, 2-4 or the staff meeting food
set up. 1 person to distribute toiletries in the bathroom, 2 times a year. For the luncheon
5-7 people, this is spread out throughout the morning with decorating, set up, serving and
clean up.
Different roles needed, including services
Roles vary throughout the year. It can
be sending emails out to parents to help with setting up snacks for the staff meetings,
themes for the teacher luncheon, decorating staff lounge for the luncheon. We’d love you
to brainstorm with us to make a plan for the year. We meet about 1-3 times a year and
have often done much of our communication vial emails and phone calls. This is a low key
involvement with lots of gratification in return! We'd love the opportunity to discuss other
ways to say "Thanks" to our teachers and staff. This could range from a special theme or
grade level activities organized by parents in each grade. Lots of ideas and simple ways to
execute these activities it comes from the parents at Lafayette.
Time commitment
Volunteers needed to help out in any way possible. This committee
does not require you to sign up for the entire year. At any time you could contact us with an
idea or help out for one event.
